DESCRIPTION OF Neurosign 800 - Nerve monitors
Using the Neurosign 800 eight channel motor nerve monitor coupled with a Digitimer D185 cortical electrical stimulator, Magstim has created an easy-to-use package which solves many of the spinal surgeon’s monitoring problems – the Neurosign Spinal.
The D185 Mk 2 cortical electrical stimulator is powerful enough to be able to evoke a motor potential simply by using corkscrew electrodes inserted into the scalp over the motor cortex. By stimulating the motor cortex, a volley of action potentials is generated and passes down the spinal cord; the nerve action potential, which is difficult to measure outside of a laboratory, eventually results in a muscle action potential, which is easy to measure in the operating theatre. The Neurosign 800 immediately displays the resultant EMG signals.
