ReFleX specializes in engineering and designing wireless sensing solutions that support medical, industrial and consumer applications. The company began as a school project (Code Name: Project Z) in September 2010. Its original goal was to answer the Engineering Challenge set by STA (the Society for Technology in Anesthesia) to create a wireless multi-patient monitoring system for use in hospital wards. As a result of the encouragement that the team received from STA in January 2010, team Project Z decided to summon its business acumen and put a plan together to participate in business plan competitions under the name ReFleX Wireless. The word “ReFleX” was coined by the team’s computer engineer, Carol Lee, to reflect the team’s desire to create an automated patient monitoring system that could act without thinking.
Since February 2011, the team participated in several international business plan competitions: Nebraska Venture Competition (2nd Place), San Diego State University Venture Challenge and Elevator Pitch Competition of Wake Forest University in Northern Carolina. The team’s hard work culminated in the first placement at NYC Next Idea competition in early April 2011, where ReFleX was awarded a cash price, a short meeting with Mayor Bloomberg and six months of free office space in New York City to launch its business.
Currently ReFleX Wireless Inc. is a B.C. incorporated company with six full-time and four part-time employees, and is jointly supported by BCIC, UBC UILO and Wavefront. In the next three years, ReFleX will begin to revolutionize the process of care delivery, starting from its hometown – Vancouver.
The core objective of the company is focusing on delivering wireless sensing technology, that will help healthcare providers around the world to make their services more accessible, affordable and providing better patient outcome.
