Chest drainage units and Catheters
Chest drainage units and Catheters. Chest drainage units are units in chest drainage systems which have three chambers and are based on the old 3 bottle systems. The water seal creates a barrier between the atomospheric pressure and the lung. In other words, the water permits air and fluid to exit the pleural space, but prevents air from entering. A catheter is a thin tube which can be inserted in the body to treat diseases or perform a surgical procedure. It can deliver medications, fluids or gases to the patient’s body or to drain bodily fluids. Used in Pulmonology.
